At QFIS, the primary forensic science consultant is a Harvard graduate who retired after 22 years as a practicing forensic scientist, manager, and Acting Director of the Massachusetts State Police Crime Laboratory System, including nine statewide forensic facilities.  Mary Kate McGilvray has worked on hundreds of violent crime cases including homicides and sexual assaults.  She has collected evidence from crime scenes, analyzed physical evidence, conducted DNA analysis, and testified as an expert witness in court.  She is knowledgeable about quality assurance issues facing forensic laboratories and police agencies that collect and handle physical evidence.  She has managed and led forensic scientists to achieve accreditation to ensure quality work.  She is certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Criminalistics, and is an experienced DNA analyst and forensic DNA laboratory inspector.

Mary Kate has taught forensic science topics to a wide variety of audiences including police officers, lawyers, scientists, authors and students.  Mary Kate knows forensic science quality, knows when things are done correctly, and can apply that knowledge to assist with any forensic science project you have.
